According to him, the fund that will receive income from resources and other assets is focused on the long-term reconstruction and development of Ukraine.
"The U.S. will not take ownership of physical assets in Ukraine. And they will not burden Ukraine with significant debt," explained Bessent.
Bessent believes that the U.S. having economic management rights in these future investments will ensure transparency, accountability, corporate governance, and the legal boundaries necessary to attract reliable private investments for Ukraine's post-war recovery. Thus, America's involvement "will leave no room for corruption and insider agreements," the article states.
The American official also noted that the terms of the proposed agreement guarantee that the countries that helped Ukraine during the war "will not be able to profit from its recovery or these investments."
At the same time, Bessent did not disclose what portion of the profits from Ukrainian mineral extraction will be directed to the fund and what portion will go to the States.
