He noted that such a proposal was made during a discussion among politicians about the transit of Russian gas to Europe via Ukraine. According to Fico, after he told Zelensky that Slovakia might lose around €500 million annually from gas transit, the Ukrainian president allegedly offered him an "exchange".
"The Ukrainian president asked me if I would vote for NATO membership if he provided me with €500 million in Russian assets, and of course, I said: 'Never,'" stated the Slovak prime minister.
He added that he was surprised by such a question, as Zelensky, according to the Slovak politician, is aware of his stance on Ukraine's membership in the Alliance, which he describes as "unrealistic".
