According to him, the military buildup of the aggressor country Russia, its incursions into airspace, and sabotage directly threaten NATO. Therefore, Veldkamp emphasized the importance of intensifying the efforts of Alliance members to counter Russian behavior, which he described as "reckless and destabilizing."
"We must be equally concerned about third countries that support Russia's military machine. This requires a more robust and coordinated response from NATO and its allies. Above all, we must stay the course when it comes to supporting Ukraine. There are simply no alternatives," said the Dutch Foreign Minister.
Furthermore, during the Ukraine-NATO council, the head of the diplomatic service noted the importance of strengthening Ukraine's military capabilities.
"The Netherlands is allocating an additional €22 million for projects aimed at enhancing Ukraine's air defense and cyber resilience through NATO," Veldkamp wrote.
