In Dnipro, a man rescued an injured fox and contracted rabies in the process.

В Днепре мужчина, пытаясь спасти раненого лиса, заразился бешенством.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, cases of rabies among animals have increased. This was stated by the first deputy chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk OVA, Yuri Yandulskyi, as reported by "Vidomo."

"We have 136 confirmed cases of rabies among animals in the region. These cases have become more frequent. The reason is the migration of wild animals and pets abandoned in 'hot' regions. Fleeing from the war, they end up in Dnipropetrovsk. This is how diseases spread. To prevent the proliferation of such cases, veterinary specialists identify them and carry out necessary measures," he said.

Among these measures are the regulation of animal populations and the distribution of a special vaccine for them in communities.

In 2024, over 347 thousand doses for vaccinating wild animals were distributed across the region. However, people are strongly advised to be very cautious about contact with animals.

"Recently, a wounded fox was spotted in Dnipro. One man tried to help the animal. He put it in his car and spent half a day driving it around veterinary clinics. At no point did he consider whether the fox was infected or not. Unfortunately, we did find that it had rabies. Ultimately, the rescuer and everyone who had contact with the sick animal were hospitalized," explained Alexander Knyazyuk, head of the State Consumer Service in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
