A man sustained over 28 gunshot wounds while serving and already had a disability group; however, it was time to confirm it, as explained by the prosecutor's office.
The investigation claims that the suspect allegedly promised to provide the military personnel with a referral to undergo a medical and social expert commission for $5,000. In case of refusal to pay, she supposedly assured that the soldier's illnesses and injuries would be insufficient for obtaining a disability group. Following this, the war veteran sought help from law enforcement authorities.
"The woman was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine while receiving 210,000 UAH. As a result of searches at her home and workplace, nearly $50,000 was seized," the statement said.
The suspect has been informed of the charges for extortion and obtaining unlawful benefits from the military in connection with the assistance in confirming the disability group (part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). She has also been placed in custody with the possibility of posting bail.
