Holmes proposes a unique approach: to view weekends as a mini-vacation.
“When we perceive a vacation as an opportunity to escape from routine, we gain a boost of positive emotions. But what stops us from applying this principle to our regular weekends?” – Holmes explains.
In 2017, Holmes conducted a study involving 400 working Americans. One group was encouraged to treat their weekends like a vacation, while the other maintained their usual routine. The results showed that the first group felt happier and more energized.
“Participants who consciously took time off enjoyed more meaningful interactions with loved ones, delicious food, and peaceful relaxation. They truly lived in the moment,” – emphasized the researcher.
Let’s remember, scientists have identified the two happiest years in the lives of most people.
