French Foreign Minister: "The EU will not allow anyone to invade Greenland."

Trump has expressed his desire to purchase Greenland from Denmark multiple times, calling it "absolutely essential" for American security. Denmark has denied the possibility of a deal. At a press conference on January 7, the elected U.S. president was asked whether he ruled out the use of economic or military coercion to resolve this issue. He refused to confirm that it was impossible.

Barro commented on Trump's remarks for "Radio France." "Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark and is part of the EU. There can be no question of the EU allowing any other country in the world to attack its sovereign borders," he stated.

The French minister added that he does not believe the U.S. would actually invade the island. "If you ask me whether I think the United States will invade Greenland, my answer is no. But have we entered a period where the strongest survive? My answer is yes," Barro said.
