A special session will focus on the protection of civil rights, reproductive freedoms, climate issues, and the families of migrants. The session is scheduled to commence on December 2.
"The freedoms we cherish in California are under threat – and we will not sit idly by. California has faced this issue before. We know how to respond," said Newsom.
The session was called following Trump’s statements regarding stricter control over migrants and his campaign promise to deport undocumented individuals. It is expected that the session will expedite the implementation of measures that will safeguard California and its values from potential actions by the federal administration.
In California, Trump lost the presidential election, receiving 39.8% of the votes (after 59% of the ballots were counted). All of California's electoral votes went to his opponent from the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris.
During Trump's first term, the California Attorney General filed approximately 140 lawsuits against his administration.
