Among the deceased are two elderly women and a man. It has not yet been reported whether they were citizens of Israel.
According to reports, the attackers (whose number is unknown but was more than one person) opened fire, presumably from a vehicle, at a bus and civilian cars, before fleeing the scene. The Israel Defense Forces stated that military operations are underway to locate the shooters, and checkpoints have been established.
As reported by The Times of Israel, since the beginning of the war between Israel and the Hamas group (designated as a terrorist organization in the U.S. and EU), the level of violence in the West Bank has sharply increased. Since then, over 40 people have been killed in terrorist attacks in Israel and the West Bank, including Israeli security personnel. The previous similar attack occurred in December when a child was killed during gunfire directed at a bus heading to Jerusalem.
