A Russian court has detained a former assistant prosecutor from Berdyansk.

Российский суд задержал экс-помощника прокурора Бердянска.

According to the Russian investigation, Svyatenskiy contacted representatives of the Ukrainian intelligence shortly after Berdyansk was seized by Russian forces. He was allegedly promised employment in Ukraine and $10,000 if he organized a "loud action" in the city.

Svyatenskiy was offered to carry out an assassination attempt on Judge Vitaliy Lomeiko, who had begun cooperating with the Russian authorities. It is claimed that on October 2 of this year, the former prosecutor's assistant planted an explosive device under the judge's car. However, it detonated prematurely, and as a result of the explosion, no one was injured.

A day after the incident, the Telegram channel of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that Lomeiko was involved in the "repression of Ukrainians" and had been blown up. The judge himself stated in local media that he is not afraid of threats and will continue his work. It is reported that after Svyatenskiy was detained, he gave a confession, but the circumstances of this are unknown.

  • Berdyansk was captured by the Russian army in March 2022. Moscow announced the annexation of the Zaporizhzhia region. Kyiv and the international community do not recognize this decision.
