The U.S. allocates one billion dollars to combat the nation's egg shortage.

США выделяют $1 миллиард для решения проблемы дефицита яиц в стране.

The primary reason for the shortage is the avian flu epidemic that began on American poultry farms in early 2022. Due to the ban in the U.S. on the use of foreign vaccines, the only method of combating it remains the culling of birds if even a single infection is detected on a farm.

Out of the allocated funds, 500 million dollars are designated for measures to prevent infections. Farmers will receive 400 million as compensation, while 100 million will be allocated for research related to the avian flu vaccine. The Department also plans to import chicken eggs en masse from abroad. According to Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, the U.S. is negotiating with several countries to facilitate an emergency import of eggs as a temporary measure to meet domestic demand.

The sharp rise in egg prices is becoming a political issue for the Donald Trump administration. On Wednesday, President Trump indicated that resolving this issue is a priority for him. "Eggs are a disaster," President Trump stated during the first meeting of his cabinet.

The head of the Department of Agriculture does not expect egg prices to drop for several months. "I am reaching out to every family struggling to buy eggs: we hear you, we are fighting for you, we are organizing assistance," said Brooke Rollins in a statement.
