Russian nationals who have been detained are being charged with possession of large quantities of heavy drugs. The couple claims that the drugs were planted on them during a street search. This information about the initiated case was shared with the publication by Zиновкина's friend, Alexandra, and confirmed by her lawyer.
According to Alexandra, Zиновкина's relatives believe the case is fabricated for political reasons, as she participated in protests by the Georgian opposition.
In Russia, Zиновкина was a political activist since the early 2010s: she took part in unauthorized rallies and faced arrests and interrogations. Later, she became an assistant to State Duma deputy Sergey Obukhov from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, a position she held at least until the autumn of 2022. In December of the same year, she moved to Georgia.
A year later, Zиновкина attempted a visa run through Armenia but was not allowed to return. She managed to come back to Georgia in the summer of 2024, this time with Gribuley. In October, the couple settled in Tbilisi. Soon after, parliamentary elections took place in Georgia, which the opposition did not recognize, leading to protests.
