According to her, a month ago a group of tourists traveled to the village of Haydra in the west of the country, where the ruins of the ancient city of Ammadara are located. After that, they stopped communicating. It later became known that the tourists had been detained and are currently in custody. No charges have been filed against them so far.
A relative of another Russian tourist from this group was informed by the Russian consulate in Tunisia that the Russians were detained by local police. The Russian embassy claims that the detainees have no complaints, but they refused to provide any details. However, it is known that the detainees were not provided with a translator due to a lack of qualified specialists in the country. They are also facing issues with mattresses, blankets, and food in prison.
The Vice Consul of the Russian embassy in Tunisia met with the Russians in prison and reported that their health is satisfactory, reports RIA "Novosti". According to him, a date for the first court hearing will be set soon, which will take place behind closed doors.
"This area is under special control of local security forces — considering that it houses sensitive infrastructure for Tunisia, including those under the jurisdiction of the country's Ministry of Defense. Additionally, the border region remains tense due to the presence of terrorist cells," the message from RIA Novosti states.
