Latvian authorities have confirmed they will expel lawyer Maria Chashilova.

Representatives of the agency informed journalists that they recommended the Minister of Internal Affairs to add Chashchilova to the list of foreigners banned from entering Latvia. The security service declined to provide further details. It is unknown where Chashchilova is currently located and to which country she will be deported.

A friend of the lawyer told "Novaya Gazeta Europe" that just a few hours before her arrest, Chashchilova received a letter notifying her of the cancellation of her Latvian residence permit. Supposedly, Chashchilova was offered to choose any country outside the European Union where she would be expelled.

In January of this year, "Important Stories" published an article claiming that Chashchilova, who had collaborated with various human rights projects for many years, partially fabricated her biography. The lawyer associates her deportation from Latvia with this publication.
