Bulgaria and Romania have joined the Schengen Area.

Болгария и Румыния стали частью Шенгенской зоны.

As a result, travelers and truck drivers entering these two countries through Hungary or Greece will no longer need to present documentation.

The interior ministers of EU countries made this decision nearly three weeks ago, after Austria lifted its veto on the expansion of the Schengen Area.

In March, both countries eliminated checks at airports and seaports for arrivals from the 27 other member states of the agreement.

Romania and Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007. By 2010, they had met all technical criteria for joining Schengen but faced resistance from Austria due to concerns over illegal migration.
