The incident occurred in the mountainous region of Svaneti during the peak of the ski season. On January 5, the accused allegedly robbed a couple of Russian tourists traveling from Zugdidi to the popular vacation village of Mestia. The woman was beaten and threatened with sexual violence. The man, Viktor Solovyov, was shot in the head by the assailants and taken away with them, reported the TV channel "Mtavari".
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Russian national died from a gunshot wound. His body was dumped in a river. Later, it was discovered by employees of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, as stated in the agency's report.
The suspects have been charged with robbery committed by a group of individuals, attempted intentional murder under aggravating circumstances, and illegal acquisition, possession, and carrying of firearms.
