Ursula von der Leyen noted that she greatly appreciates Ukraine's political will. The head of the European Commission suggested that the country's accession to the EU could happen even before 2030.
President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, added that joining the EU would be the most significant guarantee of security for Ukraine's future.
Earlier, von der Leyen reached out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "A peaceful country was seized for no reason other than the imperial obsession of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," stated the letter from the head of the European Commission.
According to von der Leyen, not only Ukraine's fate is at stake, but also Europe's. Supporting Kyiv remains the top European priority. "So far, our union and member states have supported Ukraine with a total of 134 billion euros. This is more than anyone else. Thanks to our Ukrainian Fund and G7 loan, we have covered Ukraine's budget deficit for the entirety of 2025," the official emphasized.
Von der Leyen highlighted that the EU needs to expedite arms supplies to Ukraine and announced an additional aid package for Kyiv amounting to three and a half billion euros.
The head of the European Commission concluded her address to Zelensky with the words "Slava Ukraine".
