The initiatives are aimed at strengthening Ukraine's leadership in safe nuclear energy and industrial decarbonization.
According to Jenkins, these projects will assist Ukraine in "utilizing small modular reactors (SMR) to achieve energy security and climate goals in accordance with high standards of safety, security, and non-proliferation of nuclear technologies."
One of the primary focuses will be the construction of a pilot plant for the production of clean hydrogen and ammonia based on SMR, which will ensure the technological modernization of Ukraine's energy sector and support agricultural development. Additionally, the program will develop solutions for transitioning coal-fired power plants to SMR nuclear technologies, as well as a roadmap for decarbonizing the steel industry.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine emphasized that cooperation will enable Ukraine to not only integrate modern technologies but also "make a significant contribution to achieving global climate goals and revitalizing the industry."
