Three individuals being released are Alexander Trufanov, Yair Horn, and Sagi Dekel-Hen, who holds both Israeli and American citizenship. All of them were abducted from the kibbutz Nir Oz, located near the border with the Gaza Strip.
The list of hostages slated for release has been submitted to Israeli authorities.
In exchange, Israel is expected to release a number of Palestinian prisoners from its jails. There is currently no official information regarding how many will be released.
- On January 15, 2025, it was reported that Israel and Hamas, with the help of mediators, reached a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and an exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. According to the terms of the deal, in the first phase, which will last 42 days, the Israel Defense Forces will begin withdrawing troops from Gaza, while Hamas will release 33 hostages taken on October 7, 2023. Eight of these hostages are presumed dead, and their bodies will be returned to Israel.

In response, Israel launched a campaign in the Gaza Strip, which, according to Palestinian sources, resulted in the deaths of over 45,000 residents of the area, along with several hundred Israeli soldiers.
