Historian Yuri Dmitriev has been sent to a punishment isolation cell.

The reason for the current punishment is the "improper execution of morning exercises."

On January 28, Yuri Dmitriev will turn 69 years old. "Memorial" emphasizes that during his imprisonment, he has not undergone a single comprehensive medical examination, while his health condition is steadily deteriorating.

• In the 1990s, Yuri Dmitriev, along with his colleagues from "Memorial," uncovered the Sandarmokh site, where people were executed during the Great Terror. A total of about 150 burial pits have been documented, which may contain the remains of around 4,500 individuals.
• In December 2021, a court sentenced Yuri Dmitriev to 15 years of imprisonment. He was found guilty of producing child pornography, engaging in immoral acts, and possessing weapons. The historian denies all charges against him. His supporters are convinced that all cases against him have been fabricated by the authorities as revenge for his human rights activism.
