The publisher of The Sun has officially apologized to Prince Harry.

Издательство The Sun официально принесло извинения принцу Гарри.

The lawyer representing Prince Harry, the younger son of British King Charles III, announced on Wednesday in the High Court in London that an out-of-court settlement had been reached, where proceedings were set to begin regarding lawsuits filed by Prince Harry.

Harry had previously filed lawsuits against the Sun newspaper and the now-defunct News of the World publication. Reports indicate that the media group News Group Newspapers, owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch, acknowledged that it unlawfully monitored Prince Harry and his associates, obtaining information about his private life. Among other things, his phone was hacked. The prince received "full and unconditional" apologies. The amount of compensation was not disclosed; however, the lawyer described it as "substantial."

The media group also apologized for invading the privacy of Prince Harry's late mother, Lady Diana. The lawsuit covered the period from 1996 to 2011.

Media outlets note that Harry has achieved a significant victory, as publishers rarely so clearly admit guilt in such cases.

Previously, Murdoch's media group reached out-of-court settlements with over 1,300 individuals who accused it of phone tapping. This scandal led to the closure of the News of the World newspaper in 2011. The dispute with Prince Harry remained the last one and was on the verge of actual court hearings.

After numerous disputes within the royal family, Prince Harry ceased to carry out official duties several years ago. He spends most of his time living in the United States. Nevertheless, he has retained his title and the right to inherit the throne, should his turn come.
