Israel has announced a significant new raid in Jenin, located in the West Bank.

Израиль сообщил о значительном рейде в Дженине, расположенном на Западном берегу.

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, referred to the actions taken as a "large-scale and significant military operation" against militant groups supported by Iran.

"We are acting regularly and decisively against the Iranian axis, wherever it manifests - in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, or in Judea and Samaria," Netanyahu stated on Tuesday. The latter term is used by Israel to refer to the West Bank.

The current Israeli offensive in Jenin, labeled as counter-terrorism, was preceded by a weeks-long operation by the security forces of the Palestinian Authority aimed at re-establishing control over the neighboring refugee camp, which is considered a major hub for armed groups, including Hamas and "Islamic Jihad." Both are designated as terrorist organizations by the U.S. and the European Union. The previous raid in this area last week was linked by Israeli leadership to the desire to protect Israeli settlements and settlers.

Additionally, the new operation in Jenin, where the Israeli army has conducted numerous raids and major incursions in recent years, began just two days after a ceasefire agreement between the IDF and jihadists in the Gaza Strip came into effect. The agreement, which involves several phases, includes arrangements for the exchange of hostages held by militants since October 2023, when members of Hamas attacked southern Israel.

On January 21, news emerged about the impending resignation of IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi. On Tuesday, he announced that he would step down on March 6. Halevi took responsibility for a significant security breach that allowed militants to breach Israel's southern border in 2023.
