"The Colombian government has agreed to all the conditions set by President Trump, including the unlimited acceptance of all Colombian illegal immigrants from the U.S., specifically on American military aircraft, without restrictions or delays," the statement reads.
The White House added that Trump expects "full cooperation" from all countries when deporting their citizens from the U.S.
Trump threatened Colombia with sanctions for refusing to accept planes carrying migrants. These sanctions will now be held in reserve and will not be signed as long as Colombia adheres to the agreement, the Trump administration's statement also noted.
Among the restrictions promised by Trump were visa sanctions against Colombian officials and their families, as well as a 25% tariff on all imports from Colombia, with the possibility of doubling that rate. Following Trump’s threats, Colombian President Gustavo Petro promised to allocate his plane for the "dignified return" of deported Colombian citizens from the U.S.
The U.S. is Colombia's largest trading partner. For the U.S., Colombia ranks third in trade volume in Latin America.
