He addressed the city community with a video message, urging them to collaboratively decide how the city should live under these conditions.
"I want to consult with you on what we will not finance next year. Perhaps we should not fund education? Or should we stop funding healthcare? After all, we receive many injured people every day. Or maybe we will cease to support our military? Why am I asking you this? Because you, the residents of Lviv, fill the community budget; it's your money," emphasized Sadovyi.
He mentioned that he had seen a proposal from the Cabinet regarding the budget, which the government sent to the Verkhovna Rada.
"I noticed that this year they want to take approximately 2 billion UAH from the city community, including 'reversal'. I believe this is wrong. Last year, when the situation was dire and there was a request from the government, we shared and allocated approximately 1.8 billion UAH for military purposes. This year, the situation is extremely difficult. You know that we are giving 1 billion UAH to the Armed Forces ourselves – there are many requests every day from all divisions," he said.
The mayor reported that during the latest Russian attack on Lviv, 189 homes were damaged, 20 of which were destroyed, resulting in 1 billion UAH in damage to the community.
"How much have we received from the government? Zero. Yes, you might say that cities in the east are being shelled, possibly even more; that is true. But they want to take funds from the communities of Kryvyi Rih, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Dnipro as well. I spoke with the heads of communities – no one is consulting them. This is wrong – we must be united; we need to make joint decisions," Sadovyi is convinced.
