The mother of a political prisoner in Brest was sentenced for giving an interview in 2021.

56-year-old Vasilieva was arrested in August of last year and sent to a pre-trial detention center. Her trial only took place in mid-December. Her punishment is not related to imprisonment, as she was released in the courtroom.

Tatyana Vasilieva's daughter, Laptanovich, was tried in 2022. The librarian from Pruzhany was found guilty on six counts of the criminal code for participating in protests against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, reports the "Current Time" channel. The mother of three children was sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison.

Her husband, construction worker Igor Laptanovich, was sentenced to two and a half years for the same case, served his time, and has since been released. The couple was recognized as political prisoners by the human rights center "Viasna".
