On board the Emergencies Ministry plane heading to Moscow are nine injured individuals, including one child. The condition of three Russian citizens who were victims of the plane crash is extremely serious, one patient is in critical condition, while five others, including the child, are in moderate condition, reported the Russian Ministry of Health.
The plane crash occurred yesterday in the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan. According to the latest information, 38 out of the 67 people on board the Azerbaijan Airlines flight from Baku to Grozny died in the incident. 29 individuals survived, among them are nine Russians.
There is currently no official explanation for the cause of the crash. An investigation is underway. Various agencies and media sources have suggested several theories, including a collision with a flock of birds, an explosion of an oxygen tank on board, and technical malfunction. On Wednesday evening, it was reported that the black box had been found.
There is also a theory that the plane may have been shot down by ground-based air defense systems. This theory is supported by a video showing damage to the aircraft's tail section, which appeared on Russian Telegram channels on December 25. Subsequently, several OSINT experts did not dismiss this possibility.
Additionally, footage from inside the Embraer cabin surfaced online, showing that the aircraft had experienced decompression, with noticeable holes in the seats (likely from shrapnel), and witnesses reported that the injured required bandaging supplies.
The aircraft was en route from Baku to Grozny. According to the official version, during its descent, the flight was redirected to a backup airfield in Makhachkala due to heavy fog over the Chechen capital. However, the real reason for the course change could have been an attack by Ukrainian drones.
Reports of drone attacks in the region coincided with the scheduled landing of the aircraft, as noted by the opposition Chechen Telegram channel NIYSO. The drone attack on Chechnya was confirmed by Ramzan Kadyrov's nephew, Hamzat Kadyrov, the Secretary of the Security Council of Chechnya.
The Flihgtradar service confirmed that the plane was approaching Grozny but was unable to land there.
Azerbaijan Airlines has suspended flights from Baku to Grozny and Makhachkala until the investigation into the causes of the Embraer 190 crash is completed.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared December 26 a day of mourning in the country in connection with the airliner crash.
