Nearly one and a half tons of fuel oil were pumped from the main and ballast tanks of the tanker. Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev noted that the work was completed ahead of schedule. A temporary road was constructed for the operation, and a protective embankment was created around the vessel to prevent the fuel oil from leaking into the sea.
Another tanker that suffered a wreck, "Volgoneft-212," sank in the strait. The Ministry of Transport reported that divers continue to survey its fragments. No fuel leaks have been detected, and the fate of the tanker is still being determined.
- Fuel oil spilled into the sea as a result of the wreck of two "Volgoneft" tankers in the Kerch Strait on December 15 – primarily attributed to a storm. The tankers reportedly carried over 9,000 tons of petroleum products. In the initial days following the accident, fuel oil began washing up on the shores of the Krasnodar region near Anapa, with the pollution stretching along the coastline exceeding 60 kilometers. By early January, patches of fuel oil were found on the beaches of annexed Crimea.
- According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations as of January 14, rescuers and volunteers have collected and removed nearly 140,000 tons of contaminated sand from the beaches of the Krasnodar region, over 270 tons from the Crimean coast, and 141 tons from Sevastopol.
- According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the fuel oil-contaminated beaches of Anapa are expected to be restored by the summer of 2026.
