The ruling party won the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan.

На парламентских выборах в Узбекистане одержала победу правящая партия.

The elections were held for the first time using a mixed system: 75 seats were allocated through party lists and 75 through single-member districts. Five parties participated in the elections, all of which gained representation in parliament. UzLiDeP secured 64 seats (42.7%), the Democratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish" obtained 29 seats, the Social Democratic Party "Adolat" received 21 seats, the People's Democratic Party of Uzbekistan got 20 seats, and the Ecological Party won 16 seats.

Voter turnout across the country was reported at 74.7%, according to the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan.

Over the past fifteen years, the same pro-government forces have consistently entered the parliament, while opposition parties are denied registration, notes the Uzbek service of Radio Free Europe.

"All competing parties are pocket parties," says Alisher Ilkhamov, founder of the British research center Central Asia Due Diligence, adding that the authorities are trying to obstruct the formation of new political groups.
