A Chechen athlete living in Switzerland was attacked for the second time.

Чеченская спортсменка, проживающая в Швейцарии, стала жертвой нападения во второй раз.

The video is recorded in Chechen, with quotes translated by the Telegram channel "Freedom (not) over the hills." Elbukaeva shared that she was assaulted by several young men, who are presumably ethnic Chechens. According to the athlete, she was attacked from behind, lost consciousness, and fell, but the assailants continued to beat her.

This is the second attack on Elbukaeva in recent months. In June, she reported that she was assaulted by five unknown individuals and published a video showing blood and injuries on her face. The blogger of Chechen descent living in Germany, who goes by the Instagram handle Liyen Sheik, mentioned at that time that Elbukaeva regularly receives threats from people from Chechnya unhappy with her lifestyle. According to Liyen Sheik, as a result of the June attack, the athlete suffered rib fractures and a concussion. Elbukaeva reposted this publication.

Later, the athlete stated that, according to her information, the attackers were detained while attempting to leave Switzerland – there is no information on the further development of this case. The instigator of the attack, as reported by "Freedom (not) over the hills," lives in Chechnya and has been repeatedly accused of harassing Elbukaeva and other women of Chechen descent, although the specifics of those involved remain unspecified.

  • In March, the eldest son of the head of Chechnya, Akhmat Kadyrov, who at that time held the position of Minister for Youth Affairs in the republic, ordered his subordinates to search social networks for "violators" of Chechen traditions. Those caught were promised "educational conversations."
  • As discovered by the editorial team of Caucasus.Reality, the very next day, a supposed resident abroad, Sahab Makalov, took up "raids" on social media. He doxxes teenagers, forces them to apologize on camera, and complains to their relatives: for instance, one girl from Chechnya was shaved and doused with green dye by a relative in response.
  • In December 2023, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, stated that there needs to be "strict work" against athletes and bloggers who question the values of the Chechen people.
