"We see the statements from the newly elected U.S. president and members of his team expressing a desire to restore direct contacts with Russia, which were interrupted not by our fault by the outgoing administration," Putin stated.

The President of Russia emphasized that addressing the root causes of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is crucial. According to Putin, the goal should be "a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people and nations" living in the region.

As the Trump administration is set to take power in the U.S., which has repeatedly expressed a desire to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, the media increasingly discusses possible scenarios for peace negotiations, with both Moscow and Kyiv indicating theoretical readiness for talks.

One of the key issues in this context is security guarantees for Ukraine. In the absence of consensus within NATO, options for bilateral or multilateral agreements are being discussed. One such option includes the deployment of French and British military contingents in Ukraine to monitor the ceasefire regime — reported a high-ranking NATO official to the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty on the condition of anonymity.

According to CNN, Trump has instructed his aides to arrange a phone call with Putin in the coming days. Sources indicate that the conversation's goal will also include finding ways to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Trump's team had previously also mentioned preparations for a summit between the two countries' presidents.
