Reuters: The U.S. is preparing new sanctions targeting Russia's shadow fleet.

Reuters: США планируют ввести новые санкции против теневого флота России.

According to sources from the agency, "this will be a large package." It is expected that the list will include two Russian oil companies, over 100 tankers, oil traders, and Russian insurance companies. The sanctions will likely also encompass measures against individuals involved in selling oil at prices exceeding the $60 per barrel price cap set by the G7 countries.

To circumvent this restriction, Russia is utilizing a shadow fleet for trade with third countries, consisting of aging tankers registered under foreign flags. Experts have noted that many of these vessels could potentially pose a threat to environmental safety. One tanker, believed to be part of the shadow fleet, was recently seized in Finland on suspicion of being involved in the damage to an underwater cable between Estonia and Finland.

The U.S. and its allies have already imposed sanctions on dozens of vessels from the Russian shadow fleet. According to experts, this fleet consists of hundreds of ships, and the list is continuously updated. Last month, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told Reuters that the U.S. is considering further sanctions against tankers and does not rule out sanctions against Chinese banks suspected of participating in schemes to evade sanctions against Moscow.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also claims that the U.S. sanctions package will include the company "Neftna Industrija Srbije" since it is more than 50% owned by Russian companies. This has not been officially commented on by the State Department.
