Rubio on negotiations: "Both Ukraine and Russia will have to make sacrifices."

Рубио о переговорах: "Как Украине, так и России придется сделать определенные уступки".

In an interview with journalist Megan Kelly, the Secretary of State emphasized that Putin has "committed terrible acts," stating that it is essential to acknowledge that Ukraine will not be able to defeat Russia by pushing it back to its 1991 borders.

"For some reason, we made people believe that Ukraine could not only defeat Russia but also... push it back to the state the world was in during 2012, in 2014, before the Russians seized Crimea and other [territories]. As a result, for the last year and a half, they have been asking for funding for a hopeless situation, a prolonged deadlock that extends human suffering," said Rubio.

He noted that Ukraine has been "thrown back a hundred years, its energy system is destroyed, and someone will have to pay for all this recovery, considering that many Ukrainians have left the country... They may never return. This is their future, and in this regard, it is under threat," the U.S. Secretary of State shared his thoughts.

President Donald Trump, addressing participants of the World Economic Forum in Davos via video link a few days ago, stated that he would like to meet with the President of the Russian Federation to put an end to the war in Ukraine. Trump called for negotiations with Russia, promising otherwise to impose "taxes, tariffs, and sanctions" on Russian goods.
