The USA and Germany have come forward to support the lawyers of Alexei Navalny.

"The lawyers of the late opposition politician Alexei Navalny have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in the so-called 'extremist group.' The lawyers provided the political prisoner with the right to legal representation. Thus, the statement from the State Department indicates that the defense attorneys have been turned into political prisoners.

The U.S. State Department's statement calls on the Russian government to immediately release all political prisoners, reported Voice of America, summarizing remarks by State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

The German government condemned the sentences handed down by Russian authorities to the three lawyers defending Alexei Navalny.

Germany's Human Rights Commissioner at the Foreign Office, Luisa Amtsberg, emphasized that all three convicted individuals must be released. Her statement was published on the social media platform Bluesky.

The AFP agency reported that Vadim Kobzev, Alexei Lipitser, and Igor Sergunin were found guilty of belonging to an 'extremist organization' in a closed court session and sentenced to prison terms ranging from three and a half to five and a half years.

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kathrin Deschauer stated at a press conference that the Russian 'repressive system has reached yet another tragic low point.'
