As Trump stated on the social network Truth, "targeted strikes" were carried out on the suspected location of a leader of ISIS in Somalia, who was allegedly planning operations for the group. According to Trump, the strikes resulted in the destruction of caves where "many terrorists" were located, and no civilians were harmed.

The Pentagon's statement indicates that the U.S. Africa Command executed the strikes under Trump's orders and in coordination with Somali authorities. The country's presidential office confirmed that the president was informed about the airstrikes in the northern part of the country. The President of Somalia expressed support for the actions of the United States.

Initial analysis from the Pentagon suggests that "many" members of ISIS were killed. The group itself has not yet commented on the strikes. In Somalia, ISIS is weaker compared to another radical Islamist group, Al-Shabaab, and primarily operates in the northern region of Puntland, which is largely uncontrolled by the central government.
