According to Yellen, this financial assistance from the U.S. Agency for International Development, in coordination with the State Department, represents the final disbursement of funds allocated under the bipartisan supplemental appropriations law for Ukraine's security needs for 2024.
The Secretary emphasized that budgetary support from the U.S. and its allies "is crucial for Ukraine's ability to defend its sovereignty and achieve a just peace."
"Ukraine’s success is at the core of America’s national interests. Stopping the illegal invasion by [the aggressor country] Russia will help uphold a global democratic, rules-based order that advances the security and economic interests of America, sending a clear message to autocrats and potential aggressors around the world that they will face unwavering resolve," Yellen stated.
