Trump and Macron meet at the White House, with the main focus being Ukraine.

Трамп и Макрон провели встречу в Белом доме, обсудив ключевые вопросы, связанные с ситуацией в Украине.

The main topic of the negotiations is the war in Ukraine, where differences in approach between the US and the EU have emerged. Macron stated that he would present Trump with specific proposals for joint actions between the US and the European Union. In particular, as reported by the media, the French president aims to convince the US president of the necessity for EU representatives to participate in potential peace negotiations.

Upon leaving the White House, Macron remarked that Trump gave him a "very good, very friendly" reception. The presidents also held a video conference with G7 representatives. Later, both leaders are expected to have bilateral talks followed by a joint press conference.

Before departing for Washington, Macron indicated that measures for "containing" Russia are necessary, as he believes it poses a threat to all of Europe. This also concerns the possible deployment of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine after a ceasefire. According to media reports, the core of these forces would consist of British and French contingents. However, their deployment is only feasible with support from the US—even if American troops do not participate in these forces. This topic will also be discussed during the visit to Washington by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Both leaders are reportedly trying to persuade Trump that by sending their troops, European countries are taking on security guarantees for Ukraine—something Washington has been seeking from them.

US administration officials insist on a swift resolution to the conflict, having ceased to blame Russia for its aggression against Ukraine. Many, including Trump, have made sharp statements towards Kyiv. The US has also engaged in talks with Russian representatives in Riyadh. This has raised concerns in Ukraine and EU countries that Washington might attempt to negotiate with Moscow "over the heads" of Ukraine and Europe.
