The USA will demand that BRICS countries refrain from creating a new currency and not support any other currency to replace the dollar, wrote Trump on the social network TruthSocial. According to him, "there is no chance that BRICS will replace the US dollar in international trade," and any country that attempts to do so "should welcome tariffs and say goodbye to America."
Almost identical statements were made by Trump at the end of November, just weeks after his victory in the presidential elections.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that the creation of a common currency is not on the agenda. "BRICS is discussing the establishment of new joint investment platforms that will allow for collaborative investments in third countries, mutual investments, and so on; this is what the conversation is about," Peskov said.
