They were severed in 2022 after Damascus recognized the independence and subsequent annexation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine by Russia.

Zelensky met with Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga and Minister of Agrarian Policy Vitaliy Kovalev, who made a trip to Damascus.

According to Zelensky, Kyiv plans to supply grain to Syria under the Grain From Ukraine program, reports the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty. This initiative aims to deliver Ukrainian food to impoverished countries with the support of Ukraine’s allied nations.
