They were disrupted in 2022, after Damascus recognized the independence and subsequently the annexation of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine by Russia.

Zelensky met with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Agrarian Policy, Andrey Sibiga and Vitaly Koval, who made a trip to Damascus.

According to Zelensky, Kyiv plans to supply grain to Syria through the Grain From Ukraine program, as reported by the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty. This program involves delivering Ukrainian food to impoverished countries with the support of Ukraine's allied nations.
