"In terms of pace, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we have imposed sanctions on 15,000 entities, both individuals and legal entities. That’s a significant number. For comparison, the European Union has imposed sanctions on about 2,000 entities during the same period," he stated.
The Commissioner emphasized that sanctions in Ukraine are not a punishment, but rather "a tool to influence behavior, encouraging individuals to change harmful actions that are against national interests and to cease such activities."
"This partially answers the question of why sanctions can be applied to some individuals but not to others. Sometimes, there is indeed a certain sequence involved. The resources allocated for implementing sanction policies or preparing decisions are not limitless. It’s like a small blanket that you try to cover yourself with in winter: pull it in one direction, and your feet stick out; pull it in another, and your back or shoulders are exposed. You cannot do everything at once and prepare for everything," Vasyuk noted.
He reported that for the year 2024, Ukraine has prepared 18 sanction decisions.
"I believe that is quite a lot," Vasyuk remarked.
