The government will consist of the conservative Austrian People's Party, the Social Democratic Party, and the liberal party "Neos." The government's agenda includes budget consolidation, tightening asylum laws, raising the minimum marriage age from 16 to 18, and expanding kindergartens and prisons.
It is expected that the cabinet will be led by the leader of the People's Party, Christian Stocker. The coalition is set to appoint 14 ministers and 7 state secretaries, though this decision will be postponed until the beginning of next week, reports the newspaper Kurier. The three parties in the government control 110 votes in parliament out of 183.
The Freedom Party, which won the elections, will remain in opposition with 57 deputies. Its leader, Herbert Kickl, was given a mandate by the president to negotiate the formation of a government; however, these efforts ended without success.
