A law on the rehabilitation of repressed individuals has been signed in Kyrgyzstan.

В Кыргызстане принят закон о реабилитации жертв репрессий.

This document provides for the rehabilitation of individuals convicted on political grounds under the Criminal Code of the RSFSR, which was in effect in Kyrgyzstan until 1961. Signs of political repression, according to the law, include decisions made between 1917 and 1953 based on documents regarding "Red Terror," the fight against Basmachism, indications of kulak farming, and a number of other acts, as noted by Current Time.

However, rehabilitation does not apply to Kyrgyz citizens for whom there is a collection of evidence in criminal case materials confirming the legitimacy of their prosecution for treason, committed by those who served in the ranks of the military or command during World War II.

According to various sources, during the period of repression in Kyrgyzstan, between 20,000 and 40,000 people were executed. Among them were 137 representatives of the intelligentsia, including Torokul Aitmatov, Imanalay Aydarbekov, Bayaly Isakaev, and Kasym Tynystanov, who were declared "enemies of the people" and executed in early November 1938. For decades, the location of their burial remained unknown, and it was only discovered more than 50 years later.
