It is claimed that if the issue with gas supplies is not resolved, enterprises will lose their ability to restart operations. Additionally, it is reported that by January 5, it will be clear how much energy the residential sector consumes. Based on this, it will be determined how much can be "allocated" for industrial needs.
The energy crisis has been triggered by the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine to Eastern European countries starting January 1, as well as Russia's refusal to continue supplies to Moldova due to accumulated debt.
As reported by the Russian service of the BBC, citing the Transnistrian company "Tiraspoltransgaz," nearly 75,000 households were left without gas on the first day of the new year. According to authorities, 150 kindergartens and 130 schools in the region have been left without heating.
- Transnistria is a territory not controlled by Chișinău in Moldova, located on the eastern bank of the Dniester River, with a predominantly Russian-speaking population. Even before the collapse of the USSR, there were disputes between the Moldovan authorities and the leaders of Transnistria over several political issues, including the state language of Moldova.
- In 1992, a brief armed conflict occurred in the region, resulting in over a thousand deaths and nearly two thousand injuries. Russian troops entered the region. Since then, the conflict has been frozen. There are about 1,500 Russian soldiers in Transnistria, and an unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic has been proclaimed in the region. Chișinău considers the presence of Russian troops in Transnistria illegal and demands their withdrawal, but Moscow ignores these demands.
