Later, during a press briefing, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh confirmed that the 25th meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group is scheduled for January 7 in Ramstein. The U.S. Secretary of Defense is expected to participate in this meeting.
On December 30, as reported, the U.S. announced a defense assistance package for Ukraine worth nearly $2.5 billion.
The package will help "the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression," said U.S. President Joe Biden.
The aid package included the transfer of weapons and equipment from Pentagon stocks valued at $1.25 billion, as well as orders for new weapons amounting to $1.22 billion under the Ukraine Security Initiative (USAI).
