In Sweden, the organizer of Quran-burning protests has been shot dead.

В Швеции был застрелен организатор акций по сожжению Корана.

38-year-old Momika was killed in the city of Södertälje just hours before his sentencing in a criminal case related to incitement against an ethnic or national group. This was reported by Swedish television SVT.

In addition to Momika, another individual was also set to be sentenced in this case. The announcement of the verdict was postponed, and the second defendant posted on social media platform X: "I am next."

The police are investigating the death of Momika (his name is not mentioned in official reports). Swedish media indicates that he was shot at home on Wednesday evening while streaming on TikTok. No theories have yet been put forward regarding who might have committed the crime.

Salwan Momika had previously been granted asylum in Sweden. He identified as an atheist and made harsh anti-Islamic statements. In 2023, he conducted several demonstrations involving the burning of the Quran, which drew condemnation from various Muslim countries and threats of terrorism from radical Islamists. Turkey, citing these actions, delayed the process of agreeing to Sweden's NATO membership. In 2023, Swedish authorities decided to deport Momika, stating that he had provided false information when seeking asylum, but did not carry out the deportation, recognizing that he faced torture and inhumane treatment in his homeland.
