The application to recognize the "Right Sector" as a terrorist organization was previously submitted by Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov.
The organization has already been banned in Russia, as authorities recognized it as extremist.
The "Right Sector" gained notoriety during the events of 2013-2014 in Ukraine ("Euromaidan"), which resulted in the flight of Viktor Yanukovych and a change of power in the country. Activists from this organization, who adhered to right-wing nationalist views, participated in street clashes with the police and special forces. Following the annexation of Crimea and the start of the war in Donbas, many "Right Sector" activists took part in combat operations against Russian-backed separatists, and a volunteer battalion was formed based on the organization (later known as the Volunteer Ukrainian Corps - DUC "Right Sector"). A political party named "Right Sector" was also established, but it did not achieve significant success in elections.
Currently, the "Right Sector" does not play any substantial role in Ukrainian politics. The DUC "Right Sector" was transformed into a brigade within the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the fall of 2022, and it was subsequently disbanded. However, since 2014, numerous officials and pro-government commentators in Russia have portrayed the "Right Sector" as almost the main driving force of Ukrainian politics, accusing it of "Nazism," Russophobia, and numerous crimes.
