The U.S. Supreme Court declined to overturn the law banning TikTok.

Верховный суд США отклонил просьбу о снятии запрета на TikTok.

The U.S. Congress passed the document in the spring of last year. The current president, Joe Biden, signed it in April. Lawmakers deemed TikTok a threat to national security due to the potential transfer of user data to the Chinese government.

Representatives from TikTok, along with users and content creators, challenged the law in court, arguing that it is based on hypothetical data and violates the freedom of speech guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Donald Trump previously promised to "save TikTok" and urged the Supreme Court to delay the enforcement of the law so that his administration could address the contentious issues.

The U.S. president can postpone the ban for 90 days or negotiate the sale of TikTok to an American company.

On January 17, it was reported that the elected U.S. president, Donald Trump, spoke on the phone with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. According to Trump, they discussed TikTok among other topics. The elected president did not provide further details. Earlier, Chinese officials considered the idea of selling the platform to American billionaire Elon Musk if the TikTok ban in the U.S. were to take effect.
