The agreement now needs to receive support from the country's government. It is expected that the cabinet will make a decision today during the day.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that 33 hostages could be released as early as Sunday, January 19.
Once the government approves the deal, lists of Palestinian prisoners who will be released on the first day of the agreement, in exchange for the hostages, will be published. This will allow the relatives of the victims to file appeals for their release.
Earlier today, Israeli media published a list of 33 individuals who are expected to be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails as part of the first phase of the deal. Israel believes that most of the people on the list are alive, but there is no precise information regarding the condition of the hostages.
During the attack in southern Israel on October 7, 2023, Islamist groups captured around 250 individuals. As part of the first exchange deal in 2023, 105 people were released. Approximately a hundred individuals remain in captivity with Hamas, with more than 30 presumed dead.
