Two months ago, Zelensky reported 43,000 fatalities and 370,000 injuries.
The Ukrainian leader previously estimated Russian losses at nearly 200,000 killed and 550,000 wounded; however, he now claims that the enemy has lost between 300,000 and 350,000 soldiers, with an additional 70,000 missing in action, and that the maximum number of wounded could reach 700,000.
The UALosses project, based on open data, estimates the number of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers killed at 63,584 from February 24, 2022, to the present day.
The Russian side does not provide official figures regarding its losses. Journalists and volunteers have managed to identify the names of at least 91,059 Russian military personnel who have died since the invasion of Ukraine. These figures are current as of the end of January 2025 and are regularly updated.
Western intelligence agencies estimate the losses for both Russia and Ukraine to be in the hundreds of thousands of killed and wounded, with Russian losses being assessed as higher. Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that as many as one million Russian soldiers may have died in Ukraine, along with at least 700,000 Ukrainians. Trump did not provide a source for these claims.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Zelensky acknowledged that Ukraine cannot currently reclaim all territories seized by Russia. "We are reasonable people and cannot sacrifice millions for a result that is still uncertain," the Ukrainian leader noted, emphasizing that Kyiv will never recognize Moscow's sovereignty over Crimea, Donbas, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
Zelensky expressed his willingness to engage in negotiations with Vladimir Putin if that is the only way to achieve peace.
