According to Zelensky, the "peace through strength" policy announced by Trump provides an opportunity to reinforce American leadership and achieve a long-term and just peace, which is the primary priority.
"I wish President Trump and all of America success. Ukrainians are ready to work alongside Americans to achieve peace – real peace. This is an opportunity that must be seized," wrote the President of Ukraine in a Telegram message.
In his inaugural speech, Trump did not address foreign policy or Ukraine, only promising to "end all wars."
Earlier, CNN sources reported that Trump tasked his team with organizing a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the possibility of holding a summit.
Putin, in turn, congratulated Trump on taking office and expressed Moscow's readiness to engage in dialogue with the new American administration regarding the resolution of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
